Western Australia have suffered a blow with the fast bowler Brett Dorey ruled out for the rest of the season with an Achilles problem. Dorey, a key member of the side, will have a tendon repaired during surgery in Perth on Thursday after suffering a partial tear while fielding in the Sheffield Shield loss against Tasmania last week.
In a tense finish, Dorey was running for the ball at third man when he picked up the injury on the second-last delivery. The Warriors will not expect to see him back on the ground until pre-season training begins next June.
"Due to the rigours and strains of being a fast bowler, it was recommended that immediate surgery was the best course of action," a Western Australia spokesman said. Dorey took seven wickets in four Shield matches this season.
